The full identity for Binari Festival, a family-oriented music event. Built on a cast of 1920s Rubber Hose characters with a bright, popping palette — expressive enough to compete for attention, soft enough for parents to trust.
A family music festival has a problem most people don't notice: it has to be loud enough to compete for attention, but soft enough that parents feel safe bringing children. Most festival identities pick one and lose the other — energetic visuals that read as chaotic, or safe visuals that disappear in a feed.
Rubber Hose animation from the 1920s solved this exact problem a century ago. Its characters are exaggerated and gleeful — high energy — but the line quality is soft and rounded, which reads as harmless. Nostalgia does the rest: parents recognise it before they can name it, children just see it as fun.
A complete identity built on a cast of Rubber Hose characters rather than a single logo mark. Bright, popping colours carry the energy; the rounded, hand-drawn linework keeps it warm. Because the characters are modular, the same cast works on a poster, a stage backdrop, and a social post without redrawing anything.
A single visual system that reads as one event across every touchpoint, from print to stage.
Resisting the urge to add detail. Rubber Hose works because the shapes are simple — every element added to a character costs it readability at poster size. Most of the work was subtraction.
